Olave St Claire Soames was 23 years old when she married 55 year old Robert Baden-Powell in 1912. Many thought that it would bring the end to Boy Scouting it did not, instead it began The Girl Guides which is now a world wide organisation with centres in England, Mexico, Switzerland and India.
They are a modern organisation bringing young people together, for fun and development. They promote peace among children, working hard in war torn countries. They tackle the tough issues, with which girls and young women have to face on a day to day basis. They promote solar cooking and offer leadership training under the banner of The World Association of Girl Guides…..WAGGGS.
Marianne Segal has been involved with them for more than a decade and now she has produced a beautiful new song for Guides to sing wherever they are in the world. This part of Marianne's Web Site is devoted to this song and we hope that you will enjoy it and become involved with the song and with Marianne. Learn the song and sing it whenever you can, to whoever you can and spread The Hands of Friendship around the world. When all the small differences between peoples are cleared away we can see but one big truth we are all much the same and if we reach out and hold one another's hands we can all be stronger and more peaceful together.
