I had a small Philips cassette recorder and put my microphone near to the Television every Sunday night to record a series of programmes made by Sydney Carter.  Marianne told me that she had sent some recordings of her songs to him and he liked them so Marianne,  Dave and Lee were on the 'Box' again and they signed to the 'William Morris Agency'.

It is worth reminding people that then there were only three TV channels in Britain,  it was really something to be on the TV and the audience for any show was in the millions not hundred's of thousands.  I still have those recordings.  I also had a warm and interesting evening sitting next to, and chatting to, Sydney at a Concert Marianne gave in Forest Hill London that same year.  Marianne,  Dave and  Lee also appeared at Carshalton College Surrey on 21st June 1972--It was my first real concert promotion we sold 300 tickets and I had to fight a big battle with the college elders because in the previous year some others had made a mess of a concert,  Marianne was such a big hit they asked me to bring her back !

Dave Morris joined in and the band took on a new name 'The Marianne Segalband' Dave Morris was in 'Guy's and Dolls' between 1975 and 1978 they had five hit singles, may be you remember 'There's a whole lot of Loving' number 2 in 1975. The first time I saw him was with Marianne's sister at The Oval in London. Dave was tall and played some enormous 'Congas', drums. Back in the days of 'Jade' Marianne had played them, may be this put Dave 'on his metal' - after all if the boss can do your job ! They expanded into Rock Venues appearing at 'The Big Apple' Brighton with American Johnny Winter and 'Atomic Rooster'. They toured the continent of Europe. Johnny Winter, 'Atomic Rooster' had two British hits in 1971.

The band went on tour with Labbi Siffre and did many venues including the splendid 'Fairfield Halls'  in  Croydon Surrey.  They had a very good roadie that year--me !  Capitol Radio was getting started in London and it was very supportive of many but only few were regulars and the Late Night Show was regularly graced by 'The Marianne Segalband'. Hosts Sarah Ward and Robbie Barish.  Change was in the air 'The Sex Pistols' were on their way, the Punks were coming, commerical music was changing and it became clear that 'The Marianne Segal Band'  was coming to an end.  So Dave Morris went back to 'Guys and Dolls' Dave Waite joined 'Country Fever' and later toured with the 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' to Japan.  I saw him last in 1993 he was driving a London Bus.  He had advised me to find a job on a holiday camp to start learning my trade,  I did and give tribute to Dave now, because I don't know where else I could, and that advice gave me the greatest of careers and much success.  So I was away when Lee went back to Canada he joined 'The Sample Stearns' and did session work.

Julian Mendelson, sound engineer, who worked with Kate Bush and 'The Pet Shop Boys'. Ian Drury & The Blockheads', Linda Lewis, Barbara Dixon, 'Maddy Prior' and 'Mott the Hoople'Julian and Marianne worked together making demo's of her new songs and then started co-running a recording studio in Fulham, London. They recorded Ian Drury & The Blockheads', Linda Lewis, Barbara Dixon, 'Maddy Prior' and 'Mott the Hoople'.I do not know if any land other than Britain has an 'Official Poet', the Queen's Poet. To produce poetry to mark special events. (Sir John Betjemin, Poet Laureate 1972--1984) The late Sir John Betjemin was one who is well remembered, he recorded his poetry and Marianne was part of the team of people who helped with the project.
